Location #1: Springfield

700 S. Sixth St.
Springfield, IL 62703

Monday, 06/10/2019 to Friday, 06/14/2019
8:30 am to 3:00 pm
We ask that families who will be staying at the hotel arrive on Sunday, June 9.

There is a registration fee of $50 to NFB of Illinois. Participants make their lunches daily. All efforts are made to meet dietary needs. Transportation to and from the site is the responsibility of the family. For families staying in the hotel, teachers and volunteers escort the participants as they walk between the hotel and site. Parents are free to walk or drive to site sessions. There may be sessions not within walking distance for the parents.

The NFB BELL Academy in Springfield, Illinois is a unique combination of the NFB BELL Academy for children and a parent/guardian seminar. The participants are in programming 8:30 to 3:00 each day while the guardians have sessions with guest lecturers (about two hours a day). The guardians attend the field trip with the participants as well as participate in the closing picnic and a game of beep kickball. Participants/guardians who are not local to Springfield may stay at a hotel and have food costs reimbursed by NFB of Illinois.

The NFB BELL Academy Chicago is an incredible experience in the heart of Chicago. Four amazing field trips utilizing the city's public transportation systems showcase great traveling skills as well as incorporating fun aspects of the city. The participants experience a completely accessible summer program just for them! Monday through Friday for two weeks, the participants enjoy Braille reading, writing, crafting, cooking, and having so much fun!
