Accessibility Boutiques

Accessibility boutiques are workshops presented by our access technology experts that provide introductions to accessibility best practices and the latest trends in access tech.

The accessibility boutiques are offered by the National Federation of the Blind at no cost to Maryland citizens with support from the state of Maryland through the Nonvisual Accessibility Initiative grant administered by the Maryland Department of Disabilities.

Upcoming Accessibility Boutiques

March 2019—Dictation Bridge Tutorial

WHEN: Tuesday, March 26, 2019, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, 200 East Wells Street, Baltimore, MD 21230

Many people find it useful to dictate to their computers and mobile devices, whether because of physical disabilities, slow typing speed, or simple convenience. Newer versions of speech recognition programs for Windows have made it increasingly feasible to talk to your computer for more than just dictating text. However, many of these products do not integrate well with screen readers, making it difficult for blind users to train the program to their voice, edit text, and more. Dictation Bridge is a free program that integrates with both NVDA and JAWS to provide increased accessibility when working with speech recognition products like Windows Speech Recognition and Dragon Naturally Speaking. Learn about Dictation Bridge, how to set it up, and ways it can be useful both in the office and at home. Please RSVP to kzimnik@nfb.org.
