LILLY DISCONTINUES FOUR INSULINS

Users of Eli Lilly's Iletin II Pork Insulin (Regular or NPH), or of Humulin U (Ultralente) or Humulin L (Lente) will need to switch to other formulations. Lilly just announced it is discontinuing production of these insulins, and stocks should be exhausted by the end of 2005.

Lilly estimates 3.5 million diabetics in the United States use insulin, and less than two percent should be affected by these changes. If you are part of this two percent, Lilly strongly suggests you talk to your doctor promptly, and begin planning your transition to newer insulin therapies.

Lilly will be making separate mailings to doctors, nurses, and diabetes educators, about this matter. Beginning August 2005, Lilly will include information about the discontinuation with all affected insulins.
