In
mid-November leaders from blindness organizations around the world gathered
in Melbourne, Australia, for the fifth quadrennial general assembly of the
World Blind Union. Dr. Maurer will write about attending this meeting in an
upcoming issue. The Maurer family arrived in Melbourne a bit ahead of the
meeting and had an opportunity to see something of the city and the surrounding
countryside. One of the places they went was a wildlife preserve on their
way to Philip Island, where visitors could buy food to feed to the kangaroos
who lived there. In this picture President Maurer is kneeling to meet a couple
of them. One is actually eating out of his hand.
